Donald Trump vs Alex Salmond
Multi-Millionaire Donald Trump threw his toys out of the pram this week and wrote a “snotty” letter to the Scottish Assembly’s First minister, Alex Salmond.
Donald Trump told Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmon what he thought of Scotland’s ambitious offshore wind projects. “With the reckless installation of these monsters, you will single-handedly have done more damage to Scotland than virtually any event in Scottish history.” Why is The Donald so mad? Because distant offshore wind turbines might be visible from his luxury golf resort in Aberdeenshire, and such a “destruction of Scotland’s coastline” is simply unacceptable to Mr Trump.
Well excuse me, but isn’t carving out 18 phoney shapes in the natural beauty of Aberdeen’s coastline just as unnatural and destructive? And what contribution will the Golf Course make to reducing carbon emissions?

Trump’s letter continues- “I have just authorised my staff to allocate a substantial sum of money to launch an international campaign to fight your plan to surround Scotland’s coast with many thousands of wind turbines.
“It will be like looking through the bars of a prison and the Scottish citizens will be the prisoners.
“Luckily, tourists will not suffer because there will be none as they will be going to other countries that had the foresight to use other forms of energy.”
And there the mask slips. “Other forms of energy” like those used and promoted by Trump Industries. It smacks of the angry letter a spoilt child might dash off to Santa upon realising that his Christmas Toy came without batteries. And no mention of the Golf Course Clubhouse then?
Ooohh I’m so grumpy!
Mr Trump added of his objection: “I am doing this to save Scotland.”
I am sure that is going to endear him to the general Scottish public. They don’t take kindly to anyone, especially non-Scots, meddling in their affairs and voicing opinions as to what they may or may not think. The Scottish government doesn’t seem at all scared by Trump’s threats, and Niall Stuart, chief executive of Scottish Renewables, which represents the renewable energy industry in Scotland said:
“Who is Donald Trump to tell Scotland what is good for our economy and our environment?” he said. “Offshore wind is already attracting billions of pounds of investment and supporting hundreds of jobs across Scotland, including in his mother’s hometown of Stornoway.

I wonder if Mr Trump would be happy to have his Golf Course served with no electricity from any renewable source, and perhaps have a medium-sized coal power station in between Holes 6 and 7 to provide energy and a healthy carbon footprint over the Course?!
